Sustainable Buildings

Green Building

The Municipality of Jasper and Parks Canada are committed to sustainable green building design in accordance with the Jasper Community Sustainability Plan. The Jasper Fitness Centre (2014) is a certified LEED Silver building. In 2016, the doors opened to the Jasper Municipal Library and Cultural Centre, an addition to the original 1926 heritage building, providing more space to accommodate the growing needs of the community.

Green building, or sustainable design, is the practice of increasing the efficiency with which buildings and their sites use energy, water, and materials, and of reducing impacts on human health and the environment for the entire lifecycle of a building. The built environment of a community has a large impact on the natural environment. Sustainable design, construction and operation of the buildings in which we live and work reduce the consumption of natural resources and production of climate-changing greenhouse gas emissions.

Visit the Jasper Library and Cultural Centre and learn about the green design features. Tours are available; check with the library reception desk for times.
