[ARCHIVED] Keeping Jasper's Sidewalks Safe with the Snow Angels Program

Snow Angels Logo

It can be challenging for some of our residents to keep their sidewalks shoveled, ice free, and safe. Snow Angels is a community-based program facilitated by Community Outreach Services (COS) that encourages volunteers to shovel snow for community members who are unable to clear their own sidewalks. A Snow Angel can be especially helpful to older adults, people with limited mobility and anyone else needing help, even on a temporary basis.

How it works:

  1. Residents in need of help, can contact COS (780-852-6536) for a Snow Angels sign to display on their lawn, indicating they need a hand this winter. COS will deliver the sign and set it up.
  2. When it snows, community members can look for a sign and volunteer their time, shovelling snow for fellow Jasperites who need the help.

Who is eligible to have a Snow Angels sign?
Residents who need assistance removing snow are eligible. The Snow Angels Program relies on the good will of neighbourhood volunteers. Placement of a Snow Angel sign on a yard is not a guarantee that snow will be removed.

Who is a Snow Angel?
Snow Angels are individuals: youth, seniors, families, community groups, and corporate volunteers who voluntarily shovel snow for residents needing snow removal assistance.

When does the program run?
As soon as the snow flies, residents in need of Snow Angels signs are asked to call COS for delivery. As long as the snow keeps falling, the signs will remain in place.

Where can I get a sign?
Residents wanting a Snow Angels sign on their yard can call Lynda Shore at COS: 780-852-6536.

Why become a volunteer Snow Angel?
There are so many reasons! Being a neighbourhood Snow Angel is a great way to:
• Get to know your neighbours
• Help someone who will truly appreciate your effort
• Keep your street safe for pedestrians
• Exercise
• Get some fresh air

For information about the Snow Angels Program, please call Lynda Shore at 780-852-6536.
