Businesses operating in the Town of Jasper are regulated by the Town of Jasper Business Licensing Bylaw. When businesses operate in the park outside the Town boundary they operate under the control of the National Parks of Canada Businesses Regulations. Businesses located only in Town will require only a town business license. Businesses located and operating outside the Town boundary will require only a park business. Businesses that have a business office in Town and operate outside the Town boundary (i.e. taxis, contractors, guiding companies) will require both a park and a Town business license.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Starting a new Business?
The first step is to apply for a business licence at the Parks Canada administration office located in the Jasper Heritage Train Station. Businesses must comply with the Appropriate Use Guidelines agreed to by Parks Canada and the Municipality.
Renewing a license?
To renew your license in person, bring your license renewal notice to the municipal administration office at 303 Pyramid Avenue and make the necessary license payment. You may also renew through the mail by sending your payment and renewal notice to the Municipality of Jasper at Box 520, Jasper AB, T0E 1E0. Your license will be issued and sent to you by mail.
How much will a license cost?
License fees for all in-town businesses and for the in-town license for dual-license businesses are a flat rate of $165.00. The fee for the Parks Canada licenses remains unchanged.
Why a flat rate license fee?
Council views a business license as a permit to undertake business activities in the community, and has directed that issuance of licenses and the accompanying enforcement, monitoring and compliance activities be conducted on an at-cost basis. Administration costs will be the same for every license, regardless of the scale of business activities. The goal of enforcement, compliance and inspections is to provide a level playing field for all businesses
Where do my license fees go?
The flat-rate license fee of $165 per year covers administration and enforcement costs. Administration costs represent 40% of the fee, or some $65. The remaining 60% of the fee, or approximately $100, will fund enforcement, inspections and compliance activities. Enforcement will be even-handed and active.
