Refer to the agenda of the upcoming Council meeting to see which bylaws are being presented for first, second or third reading. The agenda includes copies of these bylaws. For quick reference refer to the Bylaw Summary.
Members of the public are invited to attend regular Council meetings and offer feedback on a proposed bylaw. Council meetings are held on the first and second Tuesday of the month at 1:30 pm in the Emergency Services Building. Bylaws can be amended after the first and second readings.
Written comments pertaining to proposed bylaws may also submitted to Council. Any feedback received electronically becomes part of the public record and will appear on Council agendas.
In accordance with the municipal governance act:
- Every proposed bylaw must have 3 distinct and separate readings;
- Each councillor present at the meeting at which first reading is to take place must be given or have had the opportunity to review the full text of the proposed bylaw before the bylaw receives first reading;
- Each councillor present at the meeting at which third reading is to take place must, before the proposed bylaw receives third reading, be given or have had the opportunity to review the full text of the proposed bylaw and of any amendments that were passed after first reading;
- A proposed bylaw must not have more than 2 readings at a council meeting unless the councillors present unanimously agree to consider third reading.
